The following was written as a song, by Jenny.  Jenny is the mother of three children who are ADHD and wear Ir-lens.  She wrote the song with her daughter (age six) in mind.  Jenny helps in her daughters classroom and so she was able to observe what happens.

Dreamland

When your mind leaves the classroom,

When your thoughts float away,

You’ll miss more than half the lesson, all instructions for the next.

You’re the hero in your dreamworld, but, later, what a price you’ll pay.

In your dreams you’re so successful,

            So cute and in control,

You escape humiliation, bewilderment and fear.

With luck the teacher calls you,

Then you catch a piece of school.

But you’re stuck with the reputation, “Could do better if she tried.”

You’ve been a doctor in your dreamworld, but now you just feel a fool.

            In your dreams ………

When you’ve tried so hard to listen,

And you seem like such a good girl,

How is it that the others know exactly what to do?

Your still the dancer in your dreamworld, but here you can’t be seen to twirl.

            In you dreams ………

Your too scared to ask a question,

You know you’ve been there all along,

There’s no escape from the rising panic, nowhere to run to.

You’re the princess in your dreamland, but really, where do you belong?

            In your dreams …..
