The following was written especially for us, by Jenny.  Jenny is the mother of three children who are ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and wear Ir-lens.  I screened Jenny whilst she was on holiday a couple of years ago and she was soon booked in at Irlen Centre East and wearing Ir-lens.

Aqua Tinted Lenses

With a family full of ADHD

There’s plenty of stress both above and below me;

Divorce and tribunals have been hard to take

And one result was a permanent eye-ache.

Because nothing in school was going quite right,

All our evenings were a loud, violent fight;

Homework meant dodging the furniture hurling,

Even favourite bedtime stories kept swirling.

Stock lists and brochures seemed printed all hazey

With colours floating that made me feel crazy;

I thought migraines and yawning were office life,

I never thought glasses could lessen the strife.

I told Sue Holden who said, “I’ll screen you”

When I saw all the colours, she said, “I did too!”

Sue gave me overlays in a turquoise hue,

And sent me to Irlen to meet the next Sue.

Coloured plastic?

You’re joking!

But hang on a tic!

The ache in my eye is surely dissolving.

Seeing is believing as my family know,

With school reports we’re now proud to show,

We yell, yawn and cry less, but now read music,

When we used to think we were all just dyslexic.

So thank you to Ir-lens

And thank you to Sue

For making a difference

To me and to you.
